Previously, the main source of data on Alcohol and Drug Services was sourced from the ADIS application which is a reporting platform for agencies funded to provide alcohol and other drug treatment, drink drive assessment and education, and Local Drug Strategy Primary Health Services. Since 2017, the department has migrated the data collection to the Victorian Alcohol and Drug Collection. The Victorian Alcohol and Drug Collection (VADC) dataset comprises demographic, administrative and outcome client-level data of Alcohol and Drug Treatment providers funded by Victorian Government.

The Victorian Alcohol and Drug Collection (VADC) is the data collection specification for all Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Victorian funded Alcohol and other drug (AOD) treatment providers. This includes all organisations who deliver public alcohol and other drug treatment services; Health service and non-government organisation - service providers; and AOD services provisioned by a Commonwealth Primary Health Network (PHN). Services in scope for reporting purposes are: All state funded alcohol and other drug treatment services, whether residential or non-residential; PHN commissioned Victorian AODTS providers who have received confirmation to commence reporting from their PHN area and Victorian Department of Health VADC data team; Alcohol and other drug treatment services directly funded by the Commonwealth under programs such as the Non-Government Organisations Treatment Programs Grants (NGOTGP)' and Mainstream as well as population specific services (e.g. Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and Youth Services), if they provide specialist alcohol and other drug treatment.

Administrative. The VADC is principally designed to meet the department’s funding acquittal and performance monitoring requirements. The VADC also will inform service system development and catchment-based planning, demand modelling, program evaluation and research.
Victorian state data
All data collection and reporting requirements administered by the department are required to comply with the Information Privacy Act 2000 and the Health Records Act 2001, and to act compatibly with the Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities Act 2006.
