Description 
Notifiable Conditions System records information about people who have, or may have, a notifiable condition which must be reported to the WA Health, and be held on a register. Data is collected on standard forms from clinicians, pathology laboratories and hospitals. The collection includes demographics, notification reports for clinically diagnosed and provisionally diagnosed notifiable conditions, clinical results and laboratory test results.
Scope
Western Australian wide. All notifiable conditions reported to WA Health.
Limitations 
Core data fields are regularly reviewed, although fields lack data eg. country of birth, language spoken. From 1990 to 2000, some disease notifications did not include names or were 2x2 codes.
Purpose 
Information used to inform public health by alerting authorities to individual cases that need to be managed, detect clusters of cases that may identify public health risk, population health data which provides information on patterns of disease.

Legal Authority 
The statutory requirement to notify communicable diseases and related conditions is specified in the Public Health Act 2016 and the Public Health Regulations 2017.
