The Australian Stroke Clinical Registry (AuSCR) provides a platform for participating hospitals to collect data on processes of care and outcomes for patients admitted with acute stroke. Data are used to improve the quality of stroke care nationally. The process of care variables collected align with the National Clinical Guidelines for Stroke Management.
The AuSCR Office centralises the collection of follow-up data on patient reported outcomes three to six months after admission. Outcomes collected include stroke recurrence, hospital readmission, health status, disability (as measured with the modified Rankin Scale), and quality of life measures (using the EuroQol EQ-5D-3L and Visual Analogue Scale).
Participation by clinicians, hospitals and patients is voluntary and as such it does not have population coverage. Adult hospitals in NSW are not currently contributing to the registry.
Data in the AuSCR are collected to identify where aspects of acute stroke care could be improved. Registry data are used by health planners, doctors and other clinicians to improve stroke care, treatment and rehabilitation.
