The South Australian Cancer Registry (SACR) is maintained by the Epidemiology Branch, Wellbeing South Australia and are collected under the Health Care Act 2008 (SA). The collection is a rich source of data that are used to describe trends in cancer incidence, mortality and survival in South Australia. They inform cancer service planning, health policy and also help evaluate cancer prevention, screening and treatment services, as well as identifying issues for population-specific groups.
The SACR collects information on all invasive cancers. Non-melanoma skin cancers are only collected for squamous cell carcinoma of the lip and for skin of genitalia and perineum and for basal cell carcinoma of the skin of genitalia and perineum. Notification of a diagnosis of cancer is required by law for pathology laboratories and health care institutions.
