The WA Cancer Registry is a register of persons, incidence and mortality related to a cancer diagnosis in Western Australia. Primary sources of information include pathology laboratories, hospitals, radiotherapy departments, the Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages (BDM) and other supplementary sources such as clinician.
The WA Cancer Registry collects a minimum data set for each cancer case, including place of residence at diagnosis, sex, date of birth, date of diagnosis, cancer site and morphology, basis of diagnosis, Aboriginal status, country of birth, and date, place and cause of death, where applicable.
Whilst the core cancer related fields are regularly reviewed, some quality issues may exist with other items such as country of birth. More information should be requested by contacting the WA Cancer Registry.

The cancer data collected by the WA Cancer Registry is used to monitor the number of cases of cancer in WA; plan, monitor and evaluate services for the control of cancer the care of cancer patients in WA; to compile and publish general or statistical information relating to cancer; to carry out research into the causes, prevention, screening and treatment of cancer.

The Registry was established by the Health (Notification of Cancer) Regulations 1981 and data collection and usage is now covered by the Health (Western Australian Cancer Register) Regulations 2011.
